How many WAEC exams in a year?

The WAEC conducts three main examinations in a year:

3. WASSCE for Private Candidates (Main GCE): Conducted in September-October.

How many countries are involved in WAEC?

WAEC serves the Anglophone West African countries of Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and the Gambia. These countries are part of the council established in 1952.

WAEC Registration 2024

Typically held once a year, usually in May or June, the WAEC exam covers a wide range of subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. 

Waec was further divided into two categories, it includes the WASSCE for school candidates and the WASSCE for private candidates.

Eligibility Criteria for WAEC Exam 2024

  • Attend secondary school in one of the five WAEC member countries.
  • Either have completed your secondary education or be in the final year.

Requirements for WAEC Registration 2024


To register for the WAEC exam in 2024/2025, you must fulfill these conditions:

  • Completed or be in the final year of secondary school.
  • Obtain a National Identification Number (NIN). Registration for the WAEC exam requires an NIN. If you don’t have one, visit any NIMC Registration center nearby to obtain it.
  • Provide accurate personal details such as names, gender, date of birth, addresses, states of origin, and nationalities.
  • Possess a valid passport photograph, fingerprint, phone number, and email address.
  • Choose nine subjects for your WAEC exam.
  • Pay the WAEC exam fee, typically Twenty Seven Thousand Naira (N27,000). Note that fees might vary, particularly in private schools or examination centers.

WAEC 2024 Registration Dates

  • Offline registration: Scheduled to begin on Monday, October 30, 2023, and close on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
  • Online registration: Set to start on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, and conclude on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. The registration deadline is also on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.
  • The WAEC exam itself is scheduled to commence on Monday, May 6, 2024, and conclude on Friday, June 21, 2024
